Are Indian navy personnel sentenced to death in Qatar. Former Indian Navy officers arrested in Qatar have been sentenced to death in the court there. The Indian citizens who have been sentenced are retired Navy officers and are in Qatar’s jail since August last year. Qatar has not yet tried them. The blames have not been made public. These 8 people were arrested in Qatar in October last year. On the day 26 October 2023, the court sentenced them to death.
Indian Government actions
The Indian Foreign Ministry on Thursday called this case tragic and said that Indian government will explore all legal methods in this matter and will also raise it with the Qatar government.
According to reports in the local media, he is accused of spying on Qatar’s submarin Eight foe program for Israel, although till now Qatar has not commented on this. They say that neither India nor Qatar has given information about the allegations against these people.
What reasons behind this
According to CNBC, last year i.e. in August 2022, the intelligence agency of the Qatar government took eight Indian citizens for questioning. They were caught and later arrested. Spying charges were framed against them in March. The eight arrested Indian citizens are former Navy officers and worked in a security company named Alda Hara of Qatar. This firm is part of the Qatar Navy. The aim of this program was to acquire submarines based on high-tech Italian technology that could avoid radar. The firm had seventy-five Indian civilian workers, most of whom were former officers of the Indian Navy.
Media reports
In May, the company had said that thirty-one the company is going to be closed from May 2022. According to media reports, some of the charges against the company’s chief Kameez Lazmi and the eight arrested Indians are general, while some are of special nature. The eight employees arrested on the charges of espionage have already been dismissed. Last May, Qatar ordered the closure of the company and directed approximately seventy of its employees to leave the country by the end of May 2023.
